One main function of the IECD Board is to govern and provide strategic direction to the Institute, so as to ensure that necessary mechanisms are in place to coordinate the development, delivery and monitoring of intersectoral Early Childhood Care and Education programmes, projects and initiatives.

When appointing members of the IECD Board, due consideration is given to persons whose experiences, expertise and contributions are valuable to Early Childhood Care and Education.

In accordance to Sections 18(1) and 18(3) of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Act, 2022, the President of Republic appointed a new Board for the Institute of Early Childhood Development, which took effect on 1st January 2025. The Board’s tenure is for a period of three years. Led by Dr. Javier Rose as Chairman, the Board consists of the following members:

– Shirley Choppy: Chief Executive Officer (ex-officio)

– Ralph Agrippine: Member

– Mavis Lespoir: Member

– Sonia Mancienne: Member

– Amelie Nourrice: Member

Three of the members, Mrs. Mancienne, Ms. Laboudallon and Ms. Nourrice, were on the previous Board. The Board also re-appoint Ms. Laurette Lebon, as the Secretary.

The new Board convened its first meeting on 26th February 2025 and the Chairman described it as a good and very informative meeting, whereby the new members learnt more about the roles of the Institute.

The CEO, Management and Staff have welcomed the new Board and have no doubt that they will get the full support of the Board so as to take IECD to even greater heights.
