March 16, 2026Twenty-seven participants, mainly newly registered childminders, those who require additional support, and their assistants took part in a session held recently. The session was highly interactive and included practical activities linked to the key components of the programme. These activities are crucial in equipping childminders with the necessary skills and understanding to deliver the newly introduced Early Learning Programme for Home-based Child Care Service and implement national standards on early learning and interaction.
Engaging in such activities helps childminders to better grasp the importance of their role in shaping young children’s development and instills confidence in applying the programme effectively. Moreover, these practical sessions contribute to professionalizing childminders, which is vital for raising the overall quality of ECCE services.
The childminders found the session very interesting. They appreciated the content and gained a clearer understanding of the programme, especially the story of The Three Little Pigs, which helped illustrate key concepts in a memorable way. The session was well presented, with facilitators providing clear explanations that enhanced participants’ comprehension of the activities and their application in real-world settings.
The continued support and capacity-building activities, led by IECD’s dedicated facilitators, are essential in fulfilling its mandate to professionalize childminders. By strengthening their skills and knowledge, IECD plays a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality early childhood care and education, which ultimately benefits children, families, and communities at large.
