On Friday, September 27th, the Social Committee of the Institute of Early Childhood Development (IECD), a UNESCO Category 2 Institute, organized a healthy walk as part of its team-building activities in alignment with the Clean Up the World campaign. Staff members gathered at La Scala Restaurant’s car park in Dan Zil, Bel Ombre, ready for a day filled with adventure, camaraderie, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
Equipped with gloves and gunny bags, the team set off along the picturesque Anse Major trail, collectively working to pick up litter. Along the way, participants were treated to breathtaking views of Beau Vallon Bay and the Silhouette Islands. For many, this outing was a new experience, while others fondly recalled previous excursions along the same scenic path.
The IECD would like to commend local authorities for their outstanding efforts in maintaining a clean and beautiful trail that is cherished by both locals and visitors. However, our cleanup efforts highlighted an ongoing issue: littering. The team collected numerous plastic bottles and cans along the route, underscoring the need for continued awareness and action.
In addition to the trail cleanup, another group of staff focused their efforts on cleaning the beach area adjacent to Petit Payotte Guest House. While the beach was generally tidy, a few pieces of litter were still collected, reinforcing the importance of vigilance in maintaining clean environments.
The Clean Up the World campaign, observed annually in September, involves the Ministry of Environment and the Land Waste Management Agency (LWMA) mobilizing various ministries, departments, agencies, and community groups to raise awareness about the critical need for environmental cleanliness. Overall, the IECD event not only succeeded in fostering teamwork and collaboration but also emphasized the importance of protecting our natural surroundings.
A heartfelt thank you to all participants for their dedication and efforts in making this event a success! A special word of appreciation is extended to the Social Committee for organizing this wonderful outing. Your efforts not only foster team spirit and strengthen our sense of community but also promote a healthy work-life balance.
