March 17, 2026A two-part Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session focused on the importance of ‘Planning for Early Learning’ in Child Care Centres was recently conducted by the Centre-based Child Care Section of the Institute. The sessions took place on 27th February and 6th March 2026 respectively, bringing together Child Care Managers along with staff members.
The sessions were facilitated by our own Early Learning Plan (ELP) team which consists of Mrs. Elisca Zialor, Ms. Marie-Helene Adrienne and Ms. Marie-Claire Leon, alongside Project Officer Ms. Ryna Estrale. The aim was to enhance participants’ understanding of how to effectively plan and utilize Early Learning Plans to support children’s holistic development. Through engaging discussions and group activities, participants explored the importance of intentional planning and how it supports age-appropriate learning experiences for young children.
Participants also shared their current planning methods, discussed the components of their Early Learning Plans and reflected on areas for improvements. This exchange fostered collaboration and enabled Centres to learn from each other’s experiences.
Mrs. Sheila Dodin, Manager of ‘My Early Years Day Care’ at Anse Boileau emphasized the importance of unity among Child Care Centres in adhering to a consistent Early Learning Programme. She noted that such standardization would facilitate smoother transitions for children moving between Centres and support early learning readiness assessments. Her insights sparked discussion and agreement among the participants.
On behalf of the Institute, Ms. Estrale noted that the CPD sessions reaffirm our commitment to supporting Child Care Centres in improving their practices and strengthening the quality of early childhood education and services across the country.
