One of the main functions of the IECD Board is to govern and provide strategic direction to the Institute, ensuring that the necessary mechanisms are in place to coordinate the development, delivery and monitoring of multisectoral Early Childhood Care and Education programmes, projects and initiatives.
When appointing members to the IECD Board, careful consideration is given to individuals whose experience, expertise and contributions are valuable to Early Childhood Care and Education.
In accordance with Sections 18(1) and 18(3) of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Act, 2022, the President of Republic appointed a new Board for the Institute of Early Childhood Development, effective 1st January 2025. The Board’s tenure is three years. Led by Dr. Javier Rose as Chairman, the Board comprises the following members:
- Mohammed Afif: Vice-Chairman
- Shirley Choppy: Chief Executive Officer (ex-officio)
- Ralph Agrippine – from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism: Member
- Mavis Lespoir – from Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education: Member
- Sonia Mancienne – a retired Head Teacher and Educator: Member
- Beryl Laboudallon – from Social Affairs Department: Member
- Amelie Nourrice – from the Attorney General’s Office: Member
Three members-Mrs. Mancienne, Ms. Laboudallon and Ms. Nourrice- served on the previous Board. The Board also re-appoint Ms. Laurette Lebon, as Secretary, a decision seen as beneficial for ensuring continuity in the Institute’s work.
The new Board held its first meeting on 26th February 2025. The Chairman described it as a productive and informative session, during which new members gained a deeper understanding of the Institute’s roles and activities in advancing early childhood development across the country.
The CEO, management and staff have welcomed the new Board, expressing confidence that they will receive full support to help take IECD to even greater heights.
