April 17, 2025On Tuesday 15th April, the Institute of Early Childhood Development-UNESCO Category 2 Institute hosted an information session at its Head Office, in Ile Perseverance with representatives from Domain de la Reserve Hotel from Anse Petite Cour, Baie St Anne, in Praslin. The purpose of the gathering was to discuss an exciting initiative aimed at establishing a new child care facility on the island.
The meeting brought together key partners, including IECD staff, Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency, the Planning Authority, and the Public Health Authority. The discussion centered around the pressing demand for child care services in the local community, a need underscored by the growing workforce on Praslin.

The developer, Mr. Joseph Albert and his team expressed their eagerness to embark on the project, which is designed to benefit both hotel employees and the broader community. They recognized that access to quality child care is a crucial factor influencing recruitment within the hotel industry, particularly for parents from Mahé seeking employment opportunities on Praslin. As a progressive measure, the proposal includes the integration of child care service into the employee benefit package that would effectively address the challenges faced by working parents.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that this facility would support working parents and give children the chance to join structured programmes that support their growth and development in a nurturing environment that meets the national standards prescribed in IECD’s legal framework.
Mrs. Shirley Choppy, Chief Executive Officer of the IECD, praised the initiative, stating that it aligns perfectly with the IECD’s strategic objectives to enhance child care services nationwide, addressing the needs for this essential service in communities. She offered her support to the developer and team, ready to assist during the planning process to ensure that the new facility complies national standards.
Starting this child care facility is a significant step towards supporting future generations in Praslin, creating a nurturing space for both children and working families.
