January 22, 2026After the first Childminders Excellence Award (CEA), our team took part in a training on national standards for Child Rights & Protection this morning. The goal was to improve their skills for more thorough observations and inspections during 2026. This helps them better assess and report if child care facilities meet the standards or not.
The training also updated staff on new regulations, especially regarding suitability checks and its procedures, and clarified issues encountered from last year.
As a result, staff are now better equipped to support child care service providers and ensure children’s rights and protection are safeguarded at all times. They can also monitor practices more effectively and record findings using the new digital platform known as CRIIS (Child Care Registration Inspection Information System), which will be rolled out in February 2026.
The training was led by Ms. Angel Jeannevol, Senior Social Worker and Ms. Anna-Paul Doudee, Social Worker from the Social Affairs Department. We thank them for their excellent facilitation.
‘The training was very engaging and helped me become more alert and proactive during inspections. It encouraged me to look beyond the basics and take a more thorough, critical approach to ensure full compliance and quality improvement’, said Alix Joubert – Director Home-based Child Care Services
IECD is dedicated to ongoing staff development to improve regulation, inspection and ensure high standards of care, protection, and quality for all children.
